Medical College for Women & Hospital is a project of the Medical and Health Welfare Trust, established in 1992. The project began with four visionaries – Prof. A.Q.M. Badruddoza Choudhury, Former President, and People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Prof. M.R. Khan, National Chairman, Prof. A. M. Mujibul Haq, Founder Principal, MCWH, and Prof. Suraiya Jabeen, Founder, Treasurer, who dreamed of a medical college exclusively for women.
The aim of the institute is to teach selected female candidates for five academic years according to the syllabus of Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC) for MBBS degree to be conferred by Dhaka University and then impart training of closely supervised internship for one year to create high quality career doctors for the nation.

Medical College for Women and Hospital is a project of the Medical & Health Welfare Trust which has an area of 1,20,000 Sq. ft. (approximately). This whole project is a non-profitable, voluntary, social work & self-income generating.
With the tagline ‘Committed to Empathy’ the hospital started its journey from 1992.
The Hospital is a 500 bedded well-resourced hospital and providing both general and specialized services including Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Coronary Care Unit (CCU), Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), High Dependency Unit (HDU), Neuro-surgical Unit, and Dialysis unit.The Hospital delivers the laboratory facilities and the immunization facilities to the society. It caters the demand in the Health Services of the people and is providing world-class treatment.
The institute is recognized by WHO (World Health Organization), MCI (Medical Council of India), Medical Board of California, USA and listed in the World Directory of Medical School and ECFMG (Education Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates). It is also approved by Bangladesh Medical & Dental Council (BM&DC) and University of Dhaka (DU).
Since 2003, the college has published bi-annual, peer reviewed journal, recognized by the BMDC and registered in the ISSN register. The college has a well-developed Medical Research Unit (MRU) which provides a broader research opportunity for doctors and the students of the institute.
The college is recognized by the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council. MCW&H is listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools formerly maintained by the World Health Organization and now maintained as the Avicenna Directory for Medicine. This listing entitles the graduates of MCW&H to recognition all over the world. Graduates of MCW&H are eligible for limited registration with the General Medical Council of the United Kingdom. They are also eligible to take the United States Medical Licensing Examination. The degree is also recognized by the Medical Council of India. The degree is also recognized by the California Medical Board.
