Alexandria University, formerly known as “FAROUK UNIVERSITY”, is the second  largest university in Egypt was started its journey in the year 1938 as an extension of Cairo  University. In the year 1942 this university started its own journey independently. It has 21  faculties and three institutes but Faculty of medicine and Faculty of engineering is getting  special importance and relevance across the world. 

Alexandria; a historical city located at a distance of around 230 kilometres from Cairo.  It takes approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes to reach Alexandria city from Cairo. This ancient  city was established by Alexander the Great and today not just because of its ancient relevance  but also because of the quality of education, the quality of universities and would not be an  exaggeration if we say now the commercial capital of Egypt. Alexandria is the port city of  Egypt. 

Alexandria University is ranked among the top thousand universities of the world.  According to the QS World University Ranking this university ranks between 1000 to 1200. 

The duration of the course in Alexandria University is 5 years and it is widely known  as MBBCH which is equivalent to MBBS in India. And thereafter students can continue one  or two years of clinical internship. 

There are 11 hospitals located within the campus of Alexandria university faculty of  Medicine where there is a huge flow of 10000-12000 patients per day. Each hospital has the  capacity of 300 – 400 beds and total there are around 4500 bed capacity in these total 11  hospitals. Thus, the students can get an extraordinary clinical exposure. It is a full capacity 

clinical internship where students can interact with the patients. 

Alexandria university provides curative and preventive integrated services to all their  students. All new students have to go through a comprehensive medical check-up so that they  can assure their health and safety. 

This university is located at a distance of 100 meters from the coast. Behind this hospital  there is a main market and the tram services for Alexandria city for better connectivity. This is  adjacent to the world-famous library of Alexandria. 

In total the university provides an accommodation for almost 5400 students. Near the  university campus there is a huge university hostel area. The hostel provides all the required  facilities like kitchens, dining room, laundries, cafeteria, gymnasium. 

The students’ campus life is involved in various types of sports, recreational activities  and co-curricular activities.
